Aspenfur trotted along the banks of the river, scenting the rushing water and feeling the echo in her body. She loved the water. She really did. The spray, the sound, like a constant muted purr, so comforting. She loved how unpredictable and changeable it truly was. The rocks could change the peaceful stream to a rushing violent earth shaper in half a day. She loved how the river could provide the nutrients to make things grow and sustain life. to her, the river was without a doubt the essential life giver of the forest. It sometimes shocked her that other clans didn't appreciate or understand the importance of the river.
She was still somewhat annoyed with Morningclaw, of course, but her chat with the Windclan cats had calmed her down. Her mother was just looking out for her. Just because it was suffocating and obnoxious, didn't mean her mother wasn't trying to help. Morningclaw loved her, just like Ripplepelt, Stonewhisker, and Molefang. If she was honest with herself, and sometimes she wasn't, she had a great system of support, love and family, and she'd be damned if she was going to throw that away.
Aspenfur paused once, to sniff the air and take a small drink from the river, relishing in the cool sweet water as it slid down her throat.

Robinwing nosed her way through the soft ferns and bracken towards the river. The tortoiseshell was very fond of the peaceful waters. "The river is a giant oxymoron. It is the most constant yet inconstant thing in the world. It is inconsistent, ceaselessly flowing and changing. With every glance, a different scene is seen. And yet, it is always there, the same river..."
The she-cat halted abruptly, noticing for the first time the presence of another feline. Slapping her tail over her muzzle, she felt heat rise underneath her fur. She had been talking out loud, within earshot of another cat! How embarrassing!
In vain, the she-cat tried to hide, jumping back into the bushes. She winced as the plants rustled loudly, but remained crouched there, hoping the stranger hadn't heard her.
OOC: Ridiculous, I know. It's 3:00 am here. Sorry if my writing is a little off; I'm not super coherent at the moment. xD

OOC: You're fine. It was about three when I wrote my post.
Aspenfur's ears perked at the slight murmur of a voice. She couldn't make out the words but it was a she-cat voice. There was only one, which meant it could only be one cat. Robinwing had a nasty habit of talking to herself. She didn't really think that other cats knew, but Aspenfur had noticed the habit when she was an apprentice. It was a silly thing to do, but no sillier than climbing trees, which is something Aspenfur loved to do.
She whipped her head towards the Riverclan cat, just in time to see her jump into the bushes. Aspenfur rolled her eyes, catching the scent of embarrassment. It was actually sillier to try and hide from a clanmate than to talk to yourself. Sometimes, Robinwing's ability to pick the most featherbrained choice was a little bit staggering.
She trotted to the bushes, stuck her black nose in them, and meowed, "You can come out. I already heard you."

Hearing the voice made Robinwing's heart drop. Darn it. Sighing, she retreated from the bushes.
"H-hey, Aspenfur," she mewed, unable to meet the other she-cat's eyes.
Inwardly, Robinwing felt like rolling her eyes at herself. What is wrong with you? Aspenfur is your clanmate! You practically grew up with her. Stop acting like a dumbstruck kit!
Straightening her shoulders, the she-cat willed herself to snap out of it. She'd been exceptionally jumpy the past few days. Restless, the tortoiseshell had gone hunting everyday for long hours, bringing back a sizable amount of fresh-kill for the clan. She'd succeeded in tiring herself physically enough to settle, but managed to make her mind go haywire from fatigue. Usually quite responsible, Robinwing strongly disapproved of how she was acting lately.
Sighing, she looked straight at her clan mate, green eyes focused before Aspenfur could answer. "Sorry. I just haven't been getting much sleep lately."

Aspenfur evaluated her clanmate as she climbed out of the bush, noting the embarrassment and exhaustion that seemed to haunt her figure. The tortoiseshell straightened her shoulders, but Aspenfur could still see how nervous the she-cat was. As much as Aspenfur wanted to ignore the scatterbrained Robinwing, she felt the tug of clan loyalty and felt inclined to at least make polite conversation.
She had nothing against Robinwing, of course. The she-cat was fair and an incredible hunter. But Aspenfur wasn't interested in dealing with anything but the problem with her mother. She'd figured out a plan of action and was determined to carry it out. It involved swallowing her pride, something Aspenfur wanted to get over with as quickly as possible.
She turned her attention outward again, catching the final thing Robinwing meowed. "Why aren't you sleeping?" Aspenfur asked.

Robinwing shrugged. There was no tangible cause behind why she couldn't sleep. It was probably something emotional, which was definitely something Robinwing didn't want to get in touch with. She'd had enough of her self-made drama. Is it possible for a cat to be sick of herself?
Shaking her negative thoughts away, Robinwing took a closer look at her clanmate. Aspenfur seemed to have something on her mind. The she-cat seemed... Distracted, somehow.
"Nevermind that though, what's up with you?" she meowed.

Aspenfur watched Robinwing shake away her problems and she thought it was decent of her. She wouldn't have minded listening to the she-cats issues. It might have taken her thoughts away from her mother and her soon to be painful fix up, but maybe Robinwing was looking for the same excuse of helping someone else out, before she focused on herself. A trait that Aspenfur could maybe admire, if it turned out she was actually useful. More often than not, Aspenfur had wasted both her time and the other participant in her endeavors to procrastinate.
She settled into a sit, again wrapping her tail around her paws. The gentle rush of the river sounded in her ears and she barely had to pitch her voice over it. "What's always the problem with me? Morningclaw is bothering me again about finding a mate."
Honestly, she'd thought her near daily verbal battles with her mother had become infamous around the clan, especially since they'd gotten worse the older Aspenfur had gotten older. She wasn't really that old in the first place, only eighteen moons, which was practically nothing compared to Morningclaw, who was closing in on forty six moons. Then again, Morningclaw already had a litter, and she and Ripplepelt were looking to make another, something Aspenfur was sure the entire clan knew, since they were telling anyone and everyone they encountered, whether they'd asked or not.

Dappled pebbles of various sizes clattered and clanked obnoxiously as light ginger paws sent them skipping towards the riverside. The tabby tom had not noticed the she-cats, and in his aggravation was stepping rather ungracefully so as to purposefully dislodge the stones. Anger radiated from his pelt and disheveled the fur along his spine. Although Reedheart usually responded to any insult in a humorous way, laughing it off as if words could never penetrate his thick coat, there was one cat who always managed to creep beneath his fur.
A soft mew, accentuated by the trickle of water, brought the young warrior from his thoughts. As deep, forest green eyes alighted upon the voice’s owner and her companion, Reedheart’s usually confident air returned. The feline’s patterned pelt was slightly ruffled as he sauntered towards the she-cats. This was a common thing, and seemed to voice the he was confident and didn’t need to fuss over his fur to feel so. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything,” Reedheart mewed cordially as he settled himself besides his clanmates. Languidly, as if not worried in the least that his presence would be unwanted, the feline rolled upon his back and stretched. The lean muscles of his pelt rippled in response before the warrior stilled his motions so as to look up and potentially catch one of the she-cat’s gazes. “What has brought the two of you here? I’d say fishing, but that sort of requires water and at the moment neither of you are looking the least bit interested in our clan’s namesake.”
--- OOC: Hope you both don't mind me throwing Reedheart into the mix. <33

Robinwing did recall hearing a lot about Aspenfur's frequent clashes with her mother, Morningclaw. The older she-cat was quite anal towards her daughter's love life, or rather, lack of one. Robinwing, being 36 moons, could very easily sympathize with her clan mate. Aspenfur was much younger than Robinwing, having been kitted after the tortoiseshell had already become a warrior. She shouldn't feel the need to find a mate yet. She had her whole life ahead of her to explore. And besides, Riverclan seemed to be lacking in decent tom-cats. Robinwing opened her jaws to speak, but a deep mew interrupted. Turning, light green eyes met deep green. It was Reedheart. Speak of the devil, Robinwing thought, rolling her eyes as the tom showed off his muscled body. "No, actually I was hoping a fish would just leap into my paws." The she-cat meowed sarcastically. She held her tongue after that, masking her annoyance from the tom. She had hoped to find a friend in Aspenfur. Even Robinwing herself noticed that she'd been lacking in the relational department. OOC: Not at all! Welcome

The arrival of Reedheart pleased Aspenfur, as it brought further distraction from her mother, which was good, because she felt talking more about it would just make her angry again. She liked the tom; he was confident and friendly and always put up with her jibes. Sometimes, he even returned the catty remarks with a few of his own. He was a bit arrogant, but that was fine, since she was a little rude herself. Aspenfur greeted him, with a quiet purr and a flick of her right ear, although she kept her attention focused on Robinwing. It would be rude to ignore the she-cat.
She wasn't sure how Robinwing felt about Reedheart, but from the annoyance she could smell pouring off the warrior queen, she thought perhaps their relationship wasn't that good. And maybe Aspenfur was blinded by the attentions of an older warrior. Perhaps Reedheart was actually really obnoxious and it was only the glowing confidence pouring off of him that made Aspenfur think he was pretty cool. She figured quietly to herself that she was still young enough to let reputation spin her head. Maybe when she was twenty moons, she could start being a little more sensible. At least, that was what she was going to tell her mother.
Joining Robinwing in taunting Reedheart, Aspenfur added, "I don't actually think you know what fishing looks like, Reedheart. Since I've never seen you do anything but lie in the sun."

Pebbles pricked the pale ginger tom’s outstretched spine as he gazed up upon the two she-cats with wide, innocent eyes whose depths danced with humor. Squirming once more upon the stones he aimed to place his head between Aspenfur’s paws. Whether successful or not, the tom then let his eyes search once more for Robinwing’s light green twin moons. “I’m not surprised if they do, any fish would deem itself lucky to be caught by you. They must be spellbound by beauty, with no desire but to seek you out –even at the cost of their own lives.” The warrior’s mew was teasing, but suave sincerity was the dominant tone.
As if shocked, Reedheart then placed a paw upon his exposed tousled chest fur and flicked his slender tail towards Aspenfur. If cats could grin then a crooked smile would most certainly be spread across his features. “Well, someone must unquestionably be responsible for soaking up the sun. It is a hard task I assure you, but I will do what I can for my clanmates.”
Aspenfur had always been an excellent partner when one needed a good verbal battle of wits, and the tortoiseshell’s annoyance was only egging him on. Reedheart was nothing if not persistent. If he could dissolve the tension and drag a purr out of the older cat then he would deem the interference a success. Nothing was more entertaining than a challenge.

Robinwing watched as her two clan mates playfully bickered. Reedheart was definitely a smooth talker - and a good looking one at that - she grudgingly admitted. But there was something about him that just got under her fur. The tom was just a bit younger than her, and she remembered him being just as annoying when they were apprentices as well. The furball hadn't changed much.
"Didn't any cat tell you that flattery doesn't get you anywhere?" she mewed, her eyes guarded as she watched the tom wriggle towards Aspenfur. Actually, every part of her seemed guarded when this cat was around. She snorted at his next words. "I'm so glad we have you to count on, dear Reedfeather." she continued, sarcasm turned to full blast once again.
Despite the tom, Robinwing had to admit this was entertaining. She enjoyed the soft rustle of wind in the trees and the occasional splash the river made, as if to remind the cats that it was part of the conversation as well. Shifting her eyes to look at the calming scenery of the river, she allowed herself to relax a little. Her jaws parted to let out an almost inaudible sigh.

Goldenfeather dipped her head into the flowing water that made up the river. it chilled her eyes and nose, but she didn't mind in the least. She raised her head for a second and heart her clanamtes talking at the shore. Should I go over there and talk to them? She studied Reedheart and Robinwing. They might come to blows soon...At least Aspenfur is there. If Aspenfur couldn't take care of a future fight, she could go and help as well.
Goldenfeather hooked out a minnow, but seeing as it was just too small for anyone but a kit, she threw it back. "It might get bigger someday and save a starving cats life somewhere downstream..." She turned her head, scanning for fish, but it was too cold in the morning. Later, maybe, she could come back and scan for other fish. She took one last dunk and crawled back onto shore.
She sat, drying her pelt in the morning sun, and turned her gaze onto the group of cats. Hopefully Robinwing would calm down. She seemed kind of edgy, although she hadn't gotten lots of sleep lately. Goldenfeather sighed, hoping she would get better. Even though she had never personally struck up a conversation with any of the cats, they seemed good and she didn't want any of them hurt.
OOC: Hope you don't mind me coming in...

Aspenfur looked down at the tom between her paws, secretly delighted to have his attentions. He was very handsome. But she kept her emotions and her scent in check, so no one would be able to tell. The last thing she needed was someone running to tell her mother. Reedheart was friendly and funny, but he would need to at least display a mild ability to be serious at appropriate times before she could consider him a potential mate.
With an irritated growl, Aspenfur dragged her thoughts away from that. Her mother was now bothering her in her own head. She was starting to become crazier than a fox in a fit.
She had stopped listening to the verbal war that was occurring the moment Reedheart's head had landed at her feet (as embarrassing as it was; she told herself to get it together), but she caught the final strike from Robinwing and she couldn't help but purr in amusement. For all the silly things, the she-cat did, she certainly could bring it when she was annoyed. Maybe that was why she had such a good reputation among the clan.
"Robinwing's right." Aspenfur chimed in, her tone heavily sarcastic. "I don't think the clan could survive without your basking, Reedheart. What ever shall we do when you all your hair is scraggly and almost gone and you're nothing but an old cat unable to leave the elders den?"
Aspenfur flicked her ears, trying to hide the tiny smirk on her face, and a breeze came dancing off the river, bringing with it a new, yet familiar scent. Goldenfeather sat a little further away, watching the three cats, with a grumpy expression. It didn't bother Aspenfur in the least; Goldenfeather was notoriously grouchy. Instead, Aspenfur stood up, carefully keeping Reedheart's face between her paws, and raised her tail in greeting, hoping it was enough for Goldenfeather to come over and talk. If any more cats found them, they would start to look like a border patrol.

Goldenfeather flicked her tail in reply to Aspenfur, but she didn't walk over just yet. It seemd like things may have started to become friendlier, and she turned toward the river. She took a few drinks, then proceeded to walk over to the group. Pebbles rolled under her feet, and she sat at the edge.
She scratched an itch on her face. "Should we do a patrol? It might be too hot later." Goldenfeather was going to come back later anyway to fish, but it would be good to get border patrols out of the way. She was never fond of them, but it was a part of being a Warrior.
She studied the cats for a moment. My personality doesn't really belong here, does it...? She asked herself. It was a rhetorical question, but it made her feel better because she loved proving questions wrong.
the river churned farther downstream slighly blurring her words. Spray leapt up and Goldenfeather blinked her eyes. "Maybe later we could hunt, too. Fish usually appear here in the afternoon..." She licked her lips. Fish was her favorite food. They were hard to catch too, and that made eating them even more fun. She enjoyed the occasional frog or mouse, but fish was better in her opinion.
