"Lame." Rake hissed, licking at a cut on the back of his leg that just refused to heal right. He knew he should just leave it alone, but it itched. Stupid healing skin. It was times like this that he wished he knew how to take care of his wounds, like some of the older cats he had seen around the city. Maybe the clan cats knew? They had to, with how much they fought. Otherwise all those trash-munchers would be dead.
Whatever. He was just lucky it hadn't gotten infected. He'd been careful this time. Kept it nice and clean as best he could when he lived like this.
"Stupid... I should have ripped all the fur off of him for that one." He grumbled, shaking his fur free of debris. The black tom sighed, stretching leisurely over the top of one of the two dumpsters of one of the many alleys that had served as a home to the pair during their moons of life. He would have to leave soon, but he didn't want to leave without Scrap. She could get lost.
Speaking of Scrap, where was that paw-licker? Probably off spying on some poor furball that wouldn't even know what hit them. Rake snorted, almost feeling sympathetic for her next victim. It was none of his business, unless someone decided it was his business and was willing to feed him. The tom cast an uncertain gaze to the clouds that were beginning to cover the moon. Scrap was his business, and he didn't want to get separated from her if it began to rain.
He leaped down from his perch and set off into the twisted jungle. Now, where would he go if he was Scrap? ... Right, wherever she wanted. She would be the death of him.
"Scrap?" Rake called, poking his head out of the alley. You know. Just in case she was on her way back!

"Rake?" Came the call, almost too close for comfort. "Did you get your head trapped in something again?" Scrap slid out from the darkness she so loved to stand near her brother and look him over to make sure that this was not the case. "Or is my timing just that great?" She asked, tail flicking slightly.
Of course, it didn't take a great sense of timing to know that it was about time for her to get back. A pity- the clouds, while they promised rain, made her job all that easier. Oh well. She'd deal with it. After all, it was a bad idea to leave Rake alone. Scrap had decided that a long time ago, and she was adamant on keeping up with her policy of not letting her occasionally stupid brother spend too much time all on his lonesome.
Scrap licked her brother's cheek quickly, somehow managing to look perpetually amused. "Anything you have to report today, oh brother dear? What's new in the rough and tumble world?" She asked the question innocently, as if she had no idea of the happenings of the outside world. Just a naive little lady cat here, folks! It was always fun to pretend, at least.

Rake huffed, planting his butt on the ground and giving his sister a cross look. "Obviously not." It happened once! Couldn't she just get over the pot incident? "I'm not going to try that again, Scrap. It's not my fault the Uprights put the food in there." The embarrassed tom ducked his head and ran a paw over his now flattened ears. "I think they did it on purpose. I wish they were smaller. Then we could eat them." That would be so great. "It's creepy how you just show up from nowhere. Stop that." He batted at her.
"Nothing that you don't already know." Rake gave her a droll look. "My leg itches, I'm hungry, and everyone else is stupid. It's been quiet lately." He ran his paw over his whiskers. "Even in the forest." He said that just a little bit quieter. "Summer is always quiet. Everyone is too hot to fight." He couldn't resist a chuckle at that. "Things will probably pick up soon. Especially when winter rolls around and we start running out of food and the uprights are a bit less willing to feed us."
He looked up at the now completely covered sky. "Think it's gonna rain? I'm not sure kitty will let us crash at his place tonight. I think his folks are in. You want to go find somewhere before the gangs beat us to it?" He looked over his shoulder at the alley. "I don't really want to sleep there." He confessed to his sister, his muzzle wrinkling in disgust. "It's sort of gross."
"Did you find out anything good today?" He asked. "Something worth a mouse or two? I'm starving and I'm getting tired of eating roaches."

Not even trying to fight down her laughter, the feline approached her sibling, reaching out to gently bump his face with her muzzle. "If it happened once, it can happen again." Scrap warned, trying her best to act wise. That attempt was thwarted by her snort. "Eat them? And then where would we be? With those Clans running everywhere and no where to sleep? The Uprights make these places, you know." It was amazing how things that seemed to be so dumb could do something so...huge. "Creepy?" She sounded horribly offended as she batted back, walking a few paces away before sitting. "That's how I'm still alive, thank you very much."
Scrap stretched a bit at the news report, a gentle, brief purr escaping. "Of course I know. That's my job." She focused on grooming one of her paws as her brother began to speak, the motion slowing slightly as he spoke of the cats in the forests. "I should make more time to be there, I suppose." The shecat mused, staring down at her paw for a moment. "No fighting means there could be plans to fight. If not, I can at least look around." Those silly cats were no match for a woman of the streets.
Once Rake looked up, she did as well, whiskers twitching as she rose. "Eventually, yes. I'd be surprised if it didn't." While it wasn't pleasant to go out in, the puddles at least meant there was something moderately clean to drink. Hopefully. At the claim that the alley was gross, she gave a long, labored sigh, even though she didn't exactly relish the thought of sleeping in it. "Maybe we should find a nice Upright that can take you in if its too gross for you." Rake got a gentle smack with her tail, though she was soon heading towards the exit of the alley.
"Oh, more of the usual." Was her reply to the question as she looked around, sniffing gently. "One gang is planning to do something to the other, make a move on territory, the usual. I should be able to get a bit for it." They needed food desperately; she hoped that the target gang hadn't already figured things out. That'd be terrible.
"I don't suppose you know if those forest cats need some help with espionage, do you?" Rake was more interested in them than she was. Well, more personally interested in them. She cared for business reasons. Rake cared for...she wasn't quite sure what reasons. Strange Rake reasons, probably.

Scrap earned a bump back and a purr, even if she was a pest. She was the most awful thing ever, but she was his most awful thing ever. "I dunno. Full, maybe?" He suggested as a lame attempt at humor. "I'm sure we can figure something out. Besides, we take up much less space then them. Once we eat them all we can just live in the ruins." He glanced towards the building beside him. "Once I figure out how to get in there without them letting me in." He added. Those doors sure were hard to open. He really was lucky that 'kitty' had that weird flap on his upright den.
"You're the creepiest, I hope you know that." He told her. "We could go there during the winter." He suggested. "It'll be slim pickings and colder then that pretty cat down the street but we won't have to deal with the gangs. They're always the worst in the winter." He curled his tail over his paws, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Maybe you could get to know the clans. Learn something about that code they're always rambling about." He really didn't pay much attention to the code bits. It seemed awfully boring.
"Ew!" That was even grosser! He gave her an affronted look. "If you want to sleep in the trash, be my guest. But I'm going to go find somewhere out of the rain to sleep." He fluffed up his fur, giving his sister a very offended look. He followed her anyway. "Maybe we should try the plant place?" He suggested. "I don't think any of the gangs have claimed it right now. Neutral territory or something."
"I was hoping for something more dramatic." Rake admitted. "No forbidden romances or murders? Couldn't you squeeze a bit of gossip out of it for me, Scrap? Please tell me someone has stopped being friends with someone else. I don't think my heart can take all of this peace." He sighed as if the whole world was falling down because of the lack of entertaining drama.
"I don't think so. They're obsessed with code and honor, and I don't think they'll want help from an outsider." He flicked an ear, amusement gleaming in his eyes. "If they do, they won't admit it. You'll have to be very clever."

"Throwing up, more likely. Uprights look disgusting. They must taste awful." She sounded terribly distressed at this, though that was gone quickly in favor of listening to her brother's plans. "Perhaps if you hit your head on them enough they'll break." Scrap suggested, looking around out of habit. There were always things waiting to come after you, after all. It never hurt to pay attention.
She stood still and stretched her limbs out so as to put on the proudest stance possible when told she was the creepiest. "It's a talent I have. Very useful, you know." But then she was back to her more skulking, reserved posture with her muscles a bit tense and whiskers twitching. "And the Clans are better to deal with?" She asked curiously, because they did quite honestly sound a lot like more organized gangs. "...A code? Well doesn't that sound interesting."
Rake's comment got a soft laugh, and she bumped her face to his again. "You're so much fun to rile up, brother. You make the silliest faces." How he had survived this long was a mystery- oh wait, she was there, that was how. Who knew what her brother might have done without her to keep him from doing the more stupid things in life? Surely it'd have been a tragedy. The suggestion got a nod. "Sounds good to me." Anywhere that was neutral was a place she'd prefer to be.
She heaved a sigh, something that she entirely blamed on Rake's personality and not hers, and turned towards her brother again. "Drama? Oh, yes. They've decided to kill everyone who isn't part of their gang or a rival gang. How dramatic!" Scrap cried out, flicking her tail back and forth before turning around and looking at her brother. "Drama is dangerous for us. I know you thirst for it, but drama throws everything out of balance. And the balance is quite good for us right now."
Her day only got worse when she was told about the clan. "Oh. Honor. That's great." Scrap huffed, ears flat to her head as she waited for her brother to take the lead. It was easier that way; Rake was more intimidating. "I suppose it'll be good practice, if nothing else. Try out new things. If they don't work, I'll wipe my paws clean of them."

"They're probably better then roaches." Rake argued, his ears sweeping back. "I'd rather eat trash then another roach." Unfortunately, sometimes they were all that was around. He snorted. "Even my head isn't that thick. Maybe one of the kittypets, though." He didn't bother wasting his time playing sentry. More then one look out would make them look paranoid and weak. "Let's go round one up and try it out? I think there's a new one in the outskirts."
"I know. Keep creeping on, sis." She could be as creepy as she wanted if it kept his belly full. "They don't kill." He said, his eyes flicking to her. "Not unless they have to. It's against their code. I don't know most of their rules, but it's kind of hard not to pick up on that one." He chuckled. "Definitely better to deal with. Must be nice to fight without worrying about dying if you lose."
This time, she didn't got a bump back. Instead, she got flattened ears and a disdainful look. "I do not make silly faces." He grumbled. "My face is handsome. The handsomest. It's never silly." He screwed up said handsome face in anger. How dare she call him silly! Okay, maybe a little silly... "Alright. Maybe we can sleep in the tunnels where the upright kits play?" They were obnoxiously bright and were made of weird stuff, but they were safe from the rain. "The kits won't go out in the rain. The queens don't let them near us anyway."
"Drama might be dangerous to you, Scrap, but it means food for me." Rake pointed out. "If the gangs are at peace, I don't get hired." Not necessarily a bad thing, but he needed to eat and he needed a place to sleep that wasn't full of twolegs. "Even kitty hasn't contacted me lately. I'm bored. I'm thinking about going to the forest and seeing if there are some loners out there that need some help." There had to be clanless cats out there, right?
"It's not just all clan cats." Rake added. "They've got to kick out cats sometimes. It can't all be paradise. If the clans aren't your style, you could look for the ones that get kicked out."
