Behind the Name
She was named Dark- for her dark fur, which stood out among the snow in the winter of her birth. Her grandmother's name also started with Dark-, so she was named in memory of her grandmother (who died in battle). Her parents hoped that Darkwing would grow up to be a good warrior.
The suffix -wing was given to her because of her creativity, as it was her most memorable personality trait. During her apprenticeship, she tried to make wings out of feathers. She assembled them, jumped off a log and fell flat on her face. Even though she failed, the incident stayed in everyone's minds and she got the suffix -wing. She doesn't mind, and she's quite happy with her name.

Personality
Darkwing is stubborn when she wants to be. She thinks she'll be able to stand her ground to bullies, but she was never bullied so she didn't get the chance to do the standing up. Her friends weren't bullied either, and she suspects that it might be because she never gave the bullies a chance.
She likes playing the ignorance card - pretend she doesn't understand something, especially if that something falls into the 'awkward' section, and silently laughs as others try to explain it.
She likes to hear and tell a good joke, and enjoys making others laugh. Her laugh is characteristically loud and sudden, and she can laugh at almost anything. She can sometimes behave goofy or clumsy for the amusement of others, and she likes seeing people smile and have a good time. She isn't, however, the Clan clown and she would never hurt others for amusement. If anyone does this, she will reprimand them severely because she believes that if someone is having fun then everyone should feel happy.
She has strong beliefs about equality and right and wrong, and will get into heated debates about it. She tries to give everyone a chance and not make cliché mistakes, and generally be a nice person.
She likes acting and pretend games, and is good at improvisation. She can lie quite well, but doesn't like doing it unless its absolutely necessary. She doesn't like lying to kits either, and tries her best to explain things like politics and the Warrior Code to them.
She does not like responsibility, because she becomes serious and "not fun", but she's a decent leader. She will make mistakes but she'll try to correct them, and encourage growth in her clan to the best of her ability.
She get's stressed very easily though - something as simple as incorrect food will make her twitchy. She tries not to lash out, but doesn't really know how to deal with stress, preferring to groan and turn in circles and hide in confined spaces until it passes.

Appearance
Darkwing is a dark-brown mackerel tabby she-cat with a whiter undercoat, white socks and and pale amber eyes. She has long, soft fur, which gets really heavy when it's wet so she can't swim long distances. She has a large-ish head and a long tail, muscular legs and an arching back. She's a little short in height, and complains constantly. She looks like her mother, except for her long tail, which comes from her father's side.
History
Darkwing was born in the first litter of her parents, during times of trouble, and was the only kit. It was winter, and snow was everywhere. Her mother had joked that the kit would be as pale as its father, but Darkwing was born as dark-furred as her mother. Her mother laughed, and named her Dark-kit.
9 moons later, when Dark-kit, now Darkpaw, was an apprentice, her mother had another litter - two toms. They were named Cloudkit (the white tom) and Sunkit (a light-coloured tabby). Nothing major happened during their kithoods and apprenticehoods, except for the occasional brawl between the clans.
When Darkpaw was 11 moons old, the infamous "wing incident" occurred. She wasn't injured, just left a little disoriented, and was the talk of the clan for that entire quarter-moon. A moon later, Darkpaw got made a warrior, as her mentor believed she was ready.
Darkwing grew to be a decent warrior, improving her skills as best as she could and making good progress. She was noted as an excellent hunter and as someone diplomatic, being able to talk her way out of trouble easily.
Twelve moons later, Darkwing got an apprentice - Lilypaw. By this time, both of her brothers were warriors - Cloudheart and Sunleap, both recognized as excellent fighters, fighting together as if they were one. Darkwing continued to improve, catching the attention of the Clan's senior warriors as someone who could handle responsibility. Her apprentice was cheery and was progressing well. That winter, a greencough epidemic took the lives of three cats. Lilypaw was one of them.
Darkwing doesn't like to talk about it.
Recently, Darkwing was made the Deputy of ShadowClan. The news had been a bit of a shock, since she firmly believed that it would be one of her brother who would get the job. She tried to refuse at first, but her mother encouraged her to take the position. After a lot of grumbling, she accepted, and now awaits the future.
