At last, Mousenose felt, it was time to enter the gaping Mothermouth.
The small tom padded forward, not bothering to wait for his eyes to adjust to the darkness of the tunnel- it wouldn’t work anyway. Instead he let his long whiskers drag on the sides of the passageway, feeling the path. Mousenose stepped carefully, for the rocks under his pads changed from smooth to rough and the last thing he needed was a cut pad on the venture back to WindClan camp.
The scent changed as well; he was keen to notice. Outside the Highstones the wind carried the smell of powered stone, of dust and of the odd patch of vegetation. But inside the tunnels, the scent became wet and mossy, with a touch of heather a hint of something Mousenose could never quite place. Perhaps that’s why his short fur prickled slightly at the thought; he liked the mystery the Mothermouth held.
The medicine cat knew the tunnels from his many ventures down to the Moonstone with his mentor, so it was no surprise when he found the right way by memory and soon emerged into a wide cavern with a small opening near the top. Though he could not feel it, the welcome sound of wind echoed above his head. The Moonstone lay before him.
He recalled the excitement and twinge of nervousness that he had felt as an apprentice, and it never left him. But the feeling was far from unpleasant and the tom half grinned to himself as he padded around the stone, making sure to leave room for his three comrades to rest by the stone as well. Finally Mousenose found a suitable place. The brown tabby curled up with his paws underneath him, belly to the cool stone ground, and tail tucked neatly.
With one last look around, he closed his eyes and pressed his small nose to the icy stone, waiting for sleep to take him.
ooc; I'm posting this because I don't want to run past the fifteenth like planned, nor did I want to post in the open thread before Owlberry had a chance to. The other one is still open; I just wanted to make sure the dream got started too.... Hope that's okay, let me know if anything needs to be changed!
