The forest was peaceful at dusk. The birds were settling in the trees, less flying, less talking, except a warble and a trill here and there. Only a few brave mice were still out of their dens, scuffling through the leaves. It was quieter as dusk, easier to prowl through the leaves. And maybe the chill was also forcing the prey into their holes. Leaf-fall was blowing into the forest and although the day had been clear and sunny, it was time to start preparing the clan.
Littlestar's padded through the forest, his tail proud and his ears perked for danger. He was secure in this territory, his territory, but it hurt to be aware. The forest was dangerous even when the clans were at peace, and he would prefer to er on the side of caution. Like Starlingfeather had already mentioned, he didn't feel confident to portray the clan as strong if he was already down another life.
He cast a glance over his shoulder, waiting for his deputy to catch up with him. The patrol they were attending had two purposes. One, obviously, was the actual safety and duty of the clan. To patrol and protect the borders. Then the second, which in his opinion, a slight more important. They were here to meet Starlingfeather's informants, who claimed to know something important. He didn't think they actually had anything; he didn't trust them. But he trusted Starlingfeather.
So here he was, at dusk, trotting silently through Tallpines.

The young deputy had stayed behind Littlestar, keeping to herself during the majority of their patrol. Her mind had strayed in and out of guilt and paranoia. Guilt; her neglect to follow the rules of the Clan and chase off intruders still haunted her. She could've risked her life and maybe so much more had Rake been hostile. Paranoia; Starlingfeather was worried about the meeting. She hoped to her own death that this wouldn't go wrong. That Rake would stay true to his word. There was no telling what exactly could happen, and if anything bad happened it would all be her fault for being so damned naive.
Once again, the she-cat felt as though the peace and quiet in the forest was a makeshift of a deep breath before the attack. Though, the oncoming hues and glows on the skyline to the west calmed Starlingfeather just slightly to allow the fur on her back to remain still. Ever lightly did she tread through the forest, avoiding colored leaves with soft steps that came at natural. Soft green eyes caught Littlestar's glance back at her. It was a silent command to her to catch up and she did so.
Starlingfeather padded to her leader's side with a serious look on her face. "I'll look ahead to see if he's here," She meowed, not needing to really clarify who 'he' was. Without another word, she sped up and leapt up into one of the trees on the edge of the forest ever so quietly, leaving only the rustle of pine needles that died off quickly. The deputy found an out reaching branch and climbed higher to access it.
Peering out of the tree, intent eyes scanned the dead area of the Tallpines for the black pelted tom. The setting sun cast long, eerie shadows across the ghostly area. It was all scarily foreboding.
