It had been a long journey, and he remembered the trip exhausting him as an apprentice. Across WindClan territory, across the thunderpath that marked the borders, and up the path to Highstones; he used to feel like he crossed the entire forest in one night, and the tom would frequently arrive back to camp well behind Smallstorm, panting for breath.
But Mousenose wasn’t an apprentice any longer, and while he hadn’t grown much since then, his paws carried him to Highstones easily. The trip had stopped tiring him many moons ago and now he looked forward to it. It was one of the few times he could leave camp behind with an ease of mind. Whenever the medicine cat left to gather herbs during the day, there was always that nagging feeling that something would happen while he was gone.
Mousenose had considered taking on an apprentice once before, but his ego flared at the thought even tonight. No, he could take care of his own clan without the help of a fresh, milk-scented apparentice. Smallstorm, his mentor, hadn’t taken on an apprentice until she absolutely had to, and even when she eventually grew old and blind the white she-cat had been reluctant to leave Mousenose in charge. The tom quickly inferred that the same would probably happen to him.
The ground under his paws turned from soft grass to coarse, hard rock as he neared the Mothermouth. Highstones loomed before him, the sharp peaks intimidating in the dark of night. Mousenose paused a few fox lengths away from the pitch black entrance, turning and sitting on a wide, flat stone. He’d wait for the other medicine cats to arrive, he decided, instead of heading in alone. It was only polite. Besides, it wasn’t surprising that he had arrived first- WindClan was one of the closest clans, after all.
His tail wrapped around his paws, the end twitching slightly. Visiting the Moonstone always put him in a better mood; he admired the starry-pelted felines.
ooc: I wasn't sure if anyone was going to post an open medicine cat meeting thread, so I went ahead with the one I had. If you had any particular plans in mind please let me know; I don't mean to intrude xP
