Oh it was on. Laurelpaw had struggled awake without her usual finesse, her lovely long fur knotted in a seemingly impenetrable mess. But for once in her short life that wasn’t the issue. No, it was the incredibly indignant droplet of water which had so abstinently decided to fall upon the crest of her head.
Squinting her dazzling blue eyes towards the leafy bramble roof, she gave it a stern and patronizing glare. How dare it trouble her? How dare the carefully woven ferns, which she had so tirelessly embedded within the bush, dishonor her in this manner? But, like most holes in the apprentice’s den roof, the one above her ignored her steely stare. Instead it shook slightly in a subtle breeze then dropped another orb of rain right dab upon her muzzle.
A high pitched caterwauling expanded outward from the slender figure, and rather startled a poor fat old robin resting on a branch not too far off. “You no good, squirrel munching, rat faced, fish breathed, rabbit chasing rain! Of all the disgraces, oh how the humiliation!” As if her anger alone could stop the clouds, the feline spat and hissed dramatically towards the sky.
With a rather maidenly sigh, she marched determinedly through the scattered nests before barging into the open clearing like an enraged badger. This was somewhat pointless, because it only served to drench her through and through. But the she-cat was far from over with her display of displeasure. With an obnoxious huff she fell upon her rump and began to complain once more to no one in particular. “I just can’t believe how such a stupid downpour would choose today of all days to ruin my sleep. This is an outrage, a battle cry of the sky. Honestly, if I didn’t know better I would say StarClan is disowning us all and hoping we will rot away.” At last, with an aggravated swoosh of her feathery tail, Laurelpaw gave up and theatrically spread out upon the muddy earth.
---- OOC: Just to be clear, it is raining and only a tiny bit before Sunhigh.

When the wailing commenced, tall black ears perked up suddenly from another den, whiskers twitching abruptly in the dim light that had started to break across the sky. Skittering out of the woven ferns, Rookfeather leaped out into the clearing thinking something was happening. Upon seeing the pale she-cat screeching at the sky, the black tabby felt her ears slide back on her head, tail lashing abashedly. The young dark warrior couldn't help but feel her skin prickle in embarrassment under her short black fur; usually she would find something like this amusing, but her apprentice was being unseemly. Warriors certainly did not complain about uncontrollable things such as the weather, and NEVER that loudly or in such an obnoxious fashion as the one Laurelpaw was currently displaying.
For once, not being timid about it, Rookfeather stalked over to the younger cat and cuffed her over the side of the head. While the blow wasn't hard, it was hard enough to catch her attention as her two toned eyes flashed in irritation toward the pools of blue. A few other warriors and cats had poked there heads out - no one was very alarmed but more so wondering why this cat was making so much racket this early.
"You mousebrain." Rookfeather hissed, her ears still flattened and her skin still prickling. "You made me think there was an attack going on. Do everyone a favor and stop your yelling about nothing." She spoke quickly and a little harshly, very unlike herself, but her awakening had been abrupt and fearful.

The cuff, admittedly, had been unexpected.
Raising her fine featured face from the muck below Laurelpaw let her sharp pools of light blue meet Rookfeather’s angry glare. Hot breath, in sharp contrast to the cold rain, was seeping from the other in puffs of white twirling smoke. In combination with the hissed words and flattened ears, it certainly made for a menacing sight. The apprentice was impressed.
Tenderly, with a knowing look in the depths of her eyes, the white feline lifted her feathery tail and aimed to slide it slowly along under her mentor’s jaw. A smile, heavily laden with more than light humor, flitted at the corners of her muzzle. “You’re adorable when you’re angry, you know that?”
Her alluring lilting mew sang softly through her parted maw, and was accented by a gently growing purr of appreciation. She’d meant every word. The black tabby cat was usually so kind and cheerful. Choosing to be the butt of a joke rather than to take to anger. It had then made for a strange combination when the two had been paired, but Laurelpaw was more than thrilled. Auburnstar had certainly made the only choice that the capricious apprentice would show any respect towards.
Delicately, having utterly forgotten her feigned disdain for the rain, Laurelpaw lifted her face into the downpour and flatted her ears. Little droplets caught on her coat and trailed slowly down the long hairs and slender form. With ease the grime and tangles were washed away. She was pristine once more. The devilish grin softened, her volatile mood already shifting to a calmer state.

Though she knew she intimidated her apprentice none, she still felt confident that when the moment arose she thought to herself, she'd be quite the sight. She'd impressed her mentor, hadn't she? When it came down to it, Rookfeather turned into something of a fright. But for now, her fur lay flat and her ears lifted a fraction, though her hard stare never wavered. While Laurelpaw wasn't one to apologize, if she felt her mentor was actually upset with her, sometimes she would drop her act. Sometimes.
Instead, her apprentice slyly flickered her tail under her chin; Rook, though now burning under her fur, reserved the urge to nip angrily at it.
"You're making me look like a fool, Laurelpaw." She mewed quietly, her eyes glancing sideways at the senior warriors that snickered (though it was good natured) at the young warrior and her apprentice. Being entrusted with an apprentice so young and so soon after her own vigil, Rookfeather has been given an honorable position indeed; a few of her friends from the same apprentice group as herself were envious and looked forward to seeing how she'd do - whether their wishes were positive or not. She wanted to make them proud; she felt a bit special for once, being picked over others, though Laurel was making it hard on her.
She sighed, though she was still grumpy and flicked her tail as she turned from her apprentice, long dark legs causing her to tower above the laying cat now that she wasn't crouched. "C'mon. Might as well get some practice in."

The cunning grin graced Laurelpaw’s features once more, and she let her eyes part ever so slightly so that she might glimpse the other’s embarrassment. A fool? Well, she couldn’t honestly say that the result brought regret. Playing with the lanky mentor was most enjoyable. Though, it had been awhile indeed since she was roused to irritation. But rather than worry, she simply enjoyed the moment.
What was the point in taking pain when life was so short? To the apprentice, her time was better spent dashing head first into danger and throwing her attentions at those she admired. And that was exactly what she intended to do.
“Practice?” Her mew was cheery, and rang with curiosity coated in a fresh layer of excitement. The thickly woven camp walls seemed utterly oppressive. Yes. Running through the forest with Rookfeather was an enchanting prospect.
Without pausing, the feline leapt upon her delicate paws. Slender pointed ears trained themselves upon the dark tabby’s form, and Laurelpaw’s twin blue moons lit up. “Where are we going? Oh, I hope it’s to run-through my battle moves!” She chirped lightly, bouncing upon her feet. “You’re crouch is just so fabulous, and I can’t wait to see your fighting style.”

Following the beaten down path out of camp, the tall dark tabby could have sworn she could feel the excitement radiating off of her small friend. Flicking her ears back in acknowledgement without looking over her shoulder (part of her was still irritated) and she thought over switching her plans from fighting practice to hunting... her morals got the better of her and her pace got slightly slinky when a small pang of guilty conscious of wanting to ruin her apprentices day out of spite gripped at her chest for a fleeting moment. She finally glanced back, flicking her own tail at the younger she-cats chin before picking up her pace toward the training area.
She felt her skin prickle slightly under her fur at the flattery and her ears layed back again. "W-well, I'm not that great..." She stuttered, whiskers twitching nervously as she looked back at the pretty apprentice once again before swallowing and continuing forward. "Anyway, we're nearly there. I thought we might go through some basic balancing techniques or something. Then some others if we have time before patrols."
She trailed off a bit before slowing down within view of the training area, and she felt a wave of nostalgia pass over her, a small purr rumbled from her throat. Bearfoot was a fierce warrior, and one of the hardest cats she had ever met... and this area, this small grove was where she learned to impress and surprise him. And now it was her turn to pass on those techniques to her own apprentice. The warm feeling growing in her chest was unbelievable and she found it was hard to keep her paws firmly on the ground; she wanted to jump around with joy!
