prudent . fair . daring
“Blackstep?”
Auburnstar stood in wait outside of the warriors’ den, toying absentmindedly with a strand of brambles that an apprentice had nearly completed weaving into the bush. Had her attention not been focused on Blackstep, who’s familiar and soothing scent wafted to her nose from the other side of the den wall, Auburnstar would’ve likely finished the task herself. But she had longed for the chance to discuss recent clan politics with her second-in-command and said longing was strong enough to drive her to distraction. Auburnstar had hunted that morning with all the grace of a lumbering badger as she thought of the conversation she hoped to have and stumbled through her other daily duties, head buzzing with thoughts in a way akin to the inside of a beehive.
Apart from the forepaw she held aloft to keep the bramble from obscuring her vision, each of her paws were resting on the bed of pine needles that she had been born on and, eventually, would be buried beneath, like her ancestors before her. With her worries over the other clans, the reminder that ShadowClan had been here for many moons and would remain here for many more helped the she-cat to settle her thoughts. The relief from a troubled mind was only a momentary gift, however, and was sure to be lost the moment Blackstep exited the den.
“Come to my den, friend; we have much to discuss and that is the only place we can do so privately within camp.” After several moments of waiting in the clearing, Auburnstar had finally grown impatient and moved to stand in the entrance. Her silhouette spilled across the few warriors that remained beneath the roof, her deputy among them, but her eyes were settled only on the tom’s raven pelt.
Briefly, she touched the tip of her tail to the brambles and her expression turned to one of fleeting nostalgia. Enough, Auburnstar reprimanded herself silently. Focus on the present and what you have yet to do, not things that have long since ended. You are ShadowClan’s leader; you cannot afford to be stuck in your memories.
First post as Auburnstar c: Feel free to post and bother Aub all you want. Though I can honestly say she'll get after you if she catches you, your character is welcome to eavesdrop or barge into her den and speak their mind.
