Behind the Name
Auburnstar is a reference to only her pelt color and rank as ShadowClan’s leader, so I will be describing her warrior name instead.
Auburn - Like all others that share her prefix, Auburn has a reddish-brown pelt. It was because of her coloring that her parents named her Auburnkit.
Feather – The suffix –feather was given to Auburnpaw because her strongest skill is in the area of stealth, making her a talented hunter and rather gifted at ambushing enemies.

Personality
Auburnstar has never been one to make rash decisions. She believes that action without forethought will only end in failure. And, more often than not, she is correct. However, there are occasions where her prudent tendencies are rendered absolutely useless. In situations where there is no room for wasted time and planning, it is the leader’s intelligence and daring attitude that saves her. When forced to choose the most dangerous path, Auburnstar will do everything in her power to keep her clanmates out of harm’s way. She believes in them and understands they are more than willing to lay down their lives for ShadowClan, but they lack something that makes her a little less undaunted when diving into situations: lives to spare.
The confidence and courage the she-cat possesses was not something she was born with. Her courage took shape as she began to understand that wielding the skills was not enough; she had to be brave enough to actually use them. Without the skills, being brave wouldn’t matter. And without the bravery to act when necessary, so would the skills. This realization turned Auburnstar into a very daring feline. She became even more daring as her confidence grew. She matured and developed while serving as Antstar’s deputy. The rank alone inspired her to be more sure of herself and her decisions. Seeing those decisions pay off and others obey her commands, however, transformed her into a cat that had the confidence and experience to be a worthy leader.
Being the middle-born kitten in her litter, Auburnstar has always found herself caught between arguments. This lead to the she-cat developing an open mind at an early age. She was forced into the role of impartial judge when her siblings disagreed upon something. Now, as clan leader, she finds herself often being pushed into the same position she was constantly in as a kit and apprentice. Learning early on that you must remain fair and adapt to rapidly changing conditions makes her an adept problem solver. Settling disputes is one of her easiest jobs as long as she concentrates on the problem at paw and not the warring felines. Even when involved with other clans, Auburnstar rarely loses her temper and becomes a part of a battle that is not her own to fight. She works to remain calm and level-headed so that she can help the squabbling parties to settle down.

Appearance
With long, graceful legs, Auburnstar is easily one of the tallest she-cats in ShadowClan. Light bones and a small appetite are both contributors to her slight frame, but the biggest factor would be her tendency to refuse meals until all of her clan has eaten. Despite the fact that she finished her training many moons ago, Auburnstar still continues to regularly spar and practice battle moves. That, paired with the strain of doing her duties, has muscle rippling beneath her pelt. Her tail is long and rounded, with sleek fur that lays neatly on the appendage. Reddish-brown fur covers the rest of her body in soft, medium-length waves. Mackerel tabby markings several shades darker than her pelt cover Auburnstar’s body and are most easily seen on her forehead. Ivory fur is on her chin and, partially, her cheeks. Some toes on her delicate forepaws are white as well, though not many are. Auburnstar’s face has soft features and a small muzzle. The shape of her head and face make her appear younger than her forty-one moons. Large, bright eyes, settled on a shade slightly closer to green than to yellow, don’t help her to look any older. Pink pawpads, a nose in a matching shade, and white whiskers complete her appearance.
History
Born early during late leaf-fall, Minkfoot and Redstorm’s three kittens spent the majority of their kithood being ushered through the entrance of the medicine cat’s den. Poppykit was slightly underweight, but the real worry was Snakekit. He had developed kitten-cough soon after the littermates reached their third moon. Redstorm became absentminded when performing his duties as deputy; his thoughts were centered on his only son. Auburnkit absolutely despised being confined to the den while Hollyshadow’s first litter of kittens was allowed to scramble over one another in the clearing. Because of this, the reddish-brown she-kit passed the time until her apprenticeship conning her way out of medicine cat’s den and sneaking out when she couldn’t.
Eventually, it came time for the litter to be apprenticed. Snakekit was deemed unable to start his training until he fully recovered. Poppykit became Poppypaw, though Minkfoot was hesitant to let her. Auburnkit promptly became Auburnpaw and was given Silvercloud as a mentor. No one questioned the leader’s judgment on whether or not Auburnkit was ready; the rambunctious kit’s escapades had been well thought out even if they were sometimes poorly executed. By the time Snakekit was renamed, Auburnpaw was well on her way to becoming a warrior. She learned quickly and Silvercloud was an excellent teacher. She continued her training and, at the age of twelve moons, passed her assessment with flying colors. Poppypaw was slightly bitter and often jealous of Auburnpaw’s success. Her own mentor had been a lazy, womanizing tom that had no patience with her. If it hadn’t of been for Snakepaw’s mentor guiding Poppypaw as well, she would’ve still been an apprentice for moons. Poppypaw was named Poppyshadow and Auburnpaw became Auburnfeather.
Jealousy and bitterness had driven a wedge between the sisters, but helping Snakepaw master skills he was learning repaired their bond. By the time Snakepaw was named Snakethorn, they were sitting side by side, sharing identical grins. Auburnfeather spent moons perfecting her skills at not only hunting and fighting, but also strategizing. It was a well-known fact that though she was rather prudent, Auburnfeather would take any risks necessary to accomplish her goals. It was because of this that Antstar made Auburnfeather the mentor of Blizzardpaw. He was a nervous tom; the smallest action that went against orders had him quivering with fear. Auburnfeather spent moons training him. He was an adequate hunter and an exceptional fighter. The only thing she found hard to teach him was courage. It took many moons of training to even convince him that it was alright to take risks. The apprentice finally proved himself by using what courage he had to help save a patrol of cats, his mentor included, from rats at the carrionplace. Antstar named him Blizzardfang immediately after.
Finally, Auburnfeather had trained an apprentice. She was brave, passionate, and intelligent; the clan respected the she-cat immensely. So, when Redstorm announced his retirement, many assumed that Auburnfeather would be chosen. They were correct. Only moments later, Auburnfeather was made ShadowClan’s deputy. The reddish-brown she-cat spent thirteen moons serving below Antstar before the leader succumbed to greencough.

Family
Redstorm – Auburnstar’s father and ShadowClan’s deputy before her; he was replaced by his daughter after retiring to the elders’ den
Minkfoot – Auburnstar’s mother and a talented negotiator; Minkfoot often urges her kits to settle down with mates and occasionally tries to take the situation into her own paws
Snakethorn – Auburnstar’s only brother and arguably the cat that knows her best; Snakethorn is the oldest of the three littermates and, despite the fact that he was a sickly kitten, never lets them forget it
Poppyshadow – Auburnstar’s only sister and her best friend; Poppyshadow was the last born kitten of the litter and remains the one that needs protecting in her family’s eyes

Role Play Sample
Marshy terrain squished under paw as the ShadowClan leader trod across it. Some might’ve cringed as their pawpads grew damp, but the aptly-named, auburn she-cat was not only used to the sensation; she welcomed it. When in the heat of battle, touching her paws onto familiar ground was the only thing necessary to renew her confidence. ShadowClan was the strongest and mightiest clan in the forest, especially when challenged within their own borders. Any battle brought to them could and would be won.
Despite the faith she had in her warriors, Auburnstar enjoyed the many moons of peace. Her clanmates were healthy and full-belled. What more could a young leader ask for? ShadowClan passed the time by stretching out beneath the sun that was rumored to only so rarely invade their cool clearing, lulling each member into either dozes or content relaxing. Even now, when Auburnstar’s thoughts frequently strayed to darker topics, her clan was content.
The deputy dozed tail-lengths away from her destination, his round stomach soaking up the warmth of the setting sun. Minkfoot shared tongues lazily with her mate on the opposite side of the clearing, dancing eyes settled on the kittens Blizzardfang had fathered as they hunted the swishing tail of their gossiping mother. Kits were ready to be made apprentices, apprentices ready to be made warriors, and many she-cats were hoping to make their nests inside of the nursery before many more moons had past. ShadowClan, along with those that they were normally at odds with, was immersed in a golden era.
But when you lead a clan, trouble was never far off in the horizon, even if the enemy had yet to take shape.
It was because of this constant worry that Auburnstar had her warriors reinforcing each den and checking for any openings in the bramble wall that shouldn’t be there. Some called her paranoid; she preferred cautious. Even if the other clans didn’t currently pose a threat, there was always the possibility of badgers, foxes, or dogs stumbling upon their camp and trying to tear apart the dens and reach the sleeping cats that would be stuck inside, protected by walls from slavering jaws until they were aware of the danger. Patrols had been increased and training sessions were taken far more seriously than they had been in the past few moons.
Peace couldn’t last forever, and when it ended, ShadowClan would be prepared.
